چکیده

Climate data can be used in simulations to estimate the output of wind turbines in locations where meteorological observations are not available. We perform the most comprehensive evaluation of the NCEP CFSR reanalysis model hourly wind speed hindcasts to date, and the first for the UK, by correlating the data against 264 onshore and 12 offshore synoptic weather stations, over a period of 30 years. The correlation of CFSR data to in situ measurements is similar to alternative approaches used in other studies both onshore and offshore. We investigate the impact of the topography, land use and mean wind speed on the onshore locations for the first time. The analysis of these spatial factors shows that CFSR represents the variety of terrain over UK well, and that the worst correlated sites are those at the highest

Hourly Wind Speed Prediction using ARMA Model and Artificial Neural Networks

In this paper, a comparison study is presented on artificial intelligence and time series models in 1-hour-ahead wind speed forecasting. Three types of typical neural networks, namely adaptive linear element, multilayer perceptrons, and radial basis function, and ARMA time series model are investigated. The wind speed data used are the hourly mean wind speed data collected at Binalood site in I...

Evaluation of Seven Different Atmospheric Reanalysis Products in the Arctic*

Atmospheric reanalyses depend on a mix of observations and model forecasts. In data-sparse regions such as the Arctic, the reanalysis solution is more dependent on the model structure, assumptions, and data assimilation methods than in data-rich regions. Applications such as the forcing of ice–ocean models are sensitive to the errors in reanalyses. Seven reanalysis datasets for the Arctic regio...

A comparative study of quantitative mapping methods for bias correction of ERA5 reanalysis precipitation data

This study evaluates the ability of different quantitative mapping (QM) methods as a bias correction technique for ERA5 reanalysis precipitation data. Climate type and geographical location can affect the performance of the bias correction method due to differences in precipitation characteristics. For this purpose, ERA5 reanalysis precipitation data for the years 1989-2019 for 10 selected syno...

Evaluating the results of Hormuz strait wave simulations using WAVEWATCH-III and MIKE21-SW

In this study, the capabilities of WAWEWATCH-III and MIKE21-SW for predicting the characteristics ofwind-generated waves in Hormuz Strait are evaluated. The numerical models have been set up using Input data including GFS wind with 5° spatial resolution and 6 hours time intervals, along with the ETOPO1 bathymetry data with 2 arc-minute spatial resolutions. The results of the two model simulatio...

Distribution System Annual Cost Minimization Using Clean Type Technologies

One of the basic obstacles in the deployment of clean technologies such as wind turbines or PV modules is their intermittent nature due to dependency on the wind speed and solar radiance. In fact, the authors in this paper aim to investigate the effect of clean technologies such as wind turbines and PV modules on the total and individual costs of the distribution system. In order to model the u...
